In case you haven't heard, I got the lead role, Macheath aka Mack the Knife. This is my first time acting in the theater since a fifth grade production of The HMS Pinafore in which I played a sailor holding a mop. I am extremely humbled, honored and excited to be working with such a wonderful cast and crew in the Circle Ensemble Theater's inaugural production of A 3 Penny Opera. It is a ton of hard work, but also fun and rewarding. It is stretching my voice in ways I hadn't thought possible...a whole diferent way of singing!

  "As the sun sets on the South Beach parking lot, where Tybrisa Street dead ends into the Atlantic Ocean, Dodd Ferrelle acknowledges the expiring day with “Goodnight Angel,” from his 2003 release Sweet Lowland (Songs Inspired by Tybee Island and Savannah) and the easy breezy Orbison-esque cadence encourages unconscious swaying throughout the crowd. My daughter asks me to dance and I oblige. The next day without provocation she sings, from memory, a little of the haunting chorus “All dressed up like a bruise in your black and blue…” The live set is broadcast simultaneously on a large projection screen backdrop and whoever’s in charge of editing and producing the visual display has opted for a decidedly psychedelic approach. At every and any angle the band shimmers and swirls. Joined by renowned fiddle player and Widespread Panic collaborator David Blackmon and his multi-instrumentalist wife Noel, longtime Tin Foil Star Tim Adams on bass and Marcus Thompson (ex-Lona) on guitar, Ferrelle plows through a set list culled mostly from a career discography more than two decades in the making. The Pirate Festival on Tybee Island was a blast. The show was incredible, the fans were amazing and the band sounded great! I'm really thrilled with the new line-up. I got to experience that cool feeling when a crowded tent full of strangers erupts as you go into a song that has been in heavy rotation on their local radio station. Q105.3 in Savannah has been playing "Carriage on the Hill" for almost a year now and it showed. That felt great. Thank you Savannah and Tybee and all who attended Pirate Fest and thank you Q105.3.
Also pretty cool to get invited up by Kevn to sing "Straight to Hell" with D'nC'. Kevn and Co. have long been one of my favorites. Dodd

Dad, what is a flaw fisherman?
Well son, I guess that a flawfisherman is someone who fishes for flaws. Never heard of that, but why do you ask?
I met one today daddy. A real live flawfisherman. He was standing on the Bonaventure side of the Lazaretto creek where it splits from the Moon River.
What did this flawfisherman look like son?
Well Da. He was dressed up like a Live Oak all brown and green and covered in Spanish moss. Couldn't really see his face. Hmm.
Hmmm. That sounds like someone I used to know.
What did he sound like? How did he talk?
I can't really explain it Dad. He sounded like no one I have ever heard.

Now I'm gettin' serious about blogging. It's a beautiful day. Summer is winding down. It's still hot as hell. I'm having a rare lazy week and 1/2 off from all the projects I've been working on this year. I spent the summer producing my first record in my home studio for some buddies in Athens, which has been a blast! I'm learning a lot about the other side of the glass, and after my lazy week and 1/2, we get back in to wrap it up and mix the record.
